Counselling/psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy services are available for individuals, couples, and families.  Counselling and psychotherapy are types of therapy a mental health practitioner may offer to clients seeking to address mental health concerns.

Counselling

Counseling tends to be short-term and focused on addressing a specific issue, such as work-related stress or adjustment to a recent loss or distressing change.

psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can be brief or long-term and may be preferred by clients seeking to address fundamental mental health issues or a diagnosed mental disorder.

At KCMC, treatment planning is a collaborative process between client and therapist. The process begins with information-gathering and assessment of the concerns presented by the client.  The therapist will then facilitate discussion towards mutual understanding of the problem(s) and agreement on appropriate goal(s) for therapy.
Goal-setting takes account of the nature of the identified problem(s) and what the client seeks to gain from therapy.  The therapist will present options for how to proceed including possible treatment models or approaches.   A treatment plan will only be adopted with the client’s informed consent, which means that the therapist will provide the client with the information needed to make an informed decision.
